Our Reindeer
& People

Spend time at Taava and you will soon start to recognise some familiar noses. Aurinko is often there to meet you by the enclosure, while Taava may prefer to keep a little more distance. There is Lumi, our white reindeer many guests remember long after their visit, and Taija, whose naturally growing single antler has earned her a very fitting nickname: our unicorn.

Ask Janne, Olli or Johanna about any of them, and there is usually much more to tell. Many of our reindeer have been known to us since they were calves, and some throughout their entire lives. Over the years, you learn to recognise their individual habits, behaviour and ways of responding to different situations. Our guests begin to notice these differences too, and quite often leave Taava with one particular reindeer they remember by name.

Janne Körkkö – Reindeer Herder & Entrepreneur

Janne Körkkö is a reindeer herder, entrepreneur and owner of Santa Claus Reindeer. Reindeer herding has a long history in his family, and Janne has had his own reindeer earmark since 2010.

Taava is also very familiar ground to Janne. He grew up nearby, spending time in these forests from a young age, and still lives only a few kilometres from the farm. For Janne, Taava is a natural place to bring guests closer to reindeer and the nature he has known since childhood.
