What to Wear

Layered, warm clothing, boots, gloves and a hat make the biggest difference in winter, essential for the reindeer sleigh ride. Reindeer hides are provided in the sleigh for extra warmth, but not clothing itself. This matters especially for children: our Reindeer Guides check that every young rider is warmly dressed before the sleigh sets off. Ordinary walking shoes are enough in summer and autumn, just dress for the weather of the day.

We♥Reindeer

Every reindeer is an individual. Our reindeer include working reindeer, females with calves, young reindeer and older animals, all with different needs, temperaments and rhythms. For the reindeer that work with guests, working days include regular breaks and rest days, and their condition, appetite and recovery are followed closely. Training happens at each reindeer’s own pace.

We Love Reindeer describes how we care for our reindeer: knowing the individual animals, recognising their needs and making their wellbeing part of every decision we make. Our Reindeer Guides share this knowledge with our guests, helping them learn about reindeer, their behaviour and their life in Lapland.
