Filming & Drone Regulations in Rovaniemi

Filming in Public and Private Spaces
Filming and photography for editorial use are generally permitted in Rovaniemi’s public spaces and during public events without the need for a permit. However, any shooting within private properties, commercial venues, or during ticketed events requires prior authorization. If such permissions are needed, please indicate this clearly when filling out Visit Rovaniemi’s Media Application.

Drone Operations
Finland follows EU-wide drone regulations, with detailed guidelines available via the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency, Traficom.
In the Rovaniemi region—including areas like Santa Claus Village—drone flights are strictly controlled. An official clearance from Rovaniemi Airport’s air traffic control (EFRO) is mandatory before flying a drone in these zones.
