Our roots lie in reindeer herding, passed down from father to son. Today, <strong>Janne K\u00f6rkk\u00f6<\/strong> continues this tradition as both owner and reindeer herder, following the path of his parents, Ari and Irja K\u00f6rkk\u00f6.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"615\" data-end=\"890\"><span style=\"font-weight: 500;\">We honour the deep cultural and ecological traditions of reindeer herding, but we do so with a <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">modern mindset and a strong desire to evolve<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 500;\">. Our vision is to develop a <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">responsible, transparent and personal way of reindeer herding<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 500;\">, one that respects the past while embracing the future. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"892\" data-end=\"1131\">We are guided by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biospheretourism.com\/en\"><strong data-start=\"913\" data-end=\"940\">Biosphere certification<\/strong><\/a> framework, which supports continuous improvement in environmental, social, and economic responsibility. This also forms the basis of our path toward the <strong data-start=\"1094\" data-end=\"1124\">Sustainable Travel Finland<\/strong> label.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 500;\">As part of our long-term commitment, we are also developing a new site: <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Taava Reindeer Farm<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 500;\">, located in Janne\u2019s home village. We aim to show that responsible practices are possible even in high-traffic environments.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"602\" data-end=\"815\">We focus on actions that support local cooperation, animal wellbeing, and respect for nature. Our goal is to offer visitors year-round, authentic experiences that also encourage more thoughtful ways of travelling.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"817\" data-end=\"841\">In practice, this means:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-start=\"843\" data-end=\"1501\">We work with local producers and suppliers, such as a reindeer meat producer, local fish provider, building material stores and small-scale resellers.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"843\" data-end=\"1501\">We provide clear instructions for visitors arriving by public transport and encourage low-emission travel.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"843\" data-end=\"1501\">We maintain our reindeer fences, trails, and structures ourselves, using traditional, low-impact methods.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"843\" data-end=\"1501\">Our team also has strong hands-on skills: we regularly repair and maintain reindeer sleds, harnesses and other essential gear.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"843\" data-end=\"1501\">Our staff knows the reindeer well and is always happy to share accurate and respectful information about the animals and reindeer herding traditions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1503\" data-end=\"1716\">In Finland, nature and wellbeing are priorities \u2013 they\u2019re part of our DNA. We follow Finnish animal welfare legislation as well as regulations governing the transport of reindeer. The animals receive regular health checks, necessary vaccinations, and veterinary care whenever needed. This allows for continuous monitoring of their well-being and quick identification of any changes.
